Strandhill Food Festival

This weekend the inaugural Strandhill Food Festival took place in the picturesque Sligo village of Strandhill. Located in the hanger and departure lounge of Sligo Airport, the festival boasted some great names in Irish and local food who were delivering demos, as well as fantastic food vendors from Sligo and around the country.

Demos from bloggers such as Finn Ni Fhaolain (, Nicola Halloran ( and William Murray & James Kavanagh ( had the departure lounge packed with foodies eager to see (and taste!) some delicious food. The set up was really nice will a full room of chairs and some great chat during the demos from all involved, which were brilliantly MC’d by Ali Dunworth.

Inside the main hanger, where the Strandhill People’s Market takes place every Sunday, swarms of hungry people gathered around the dozens of food vendor to fill their bellies. Every kind of food you could imagine was there. Pizza, Indian, burritos, cakes, cheese, paella, corn dogs, marshmallows,  sauces, oysters, and a whole load more!

Unfortunately I couldn’t taste everything but what I did was great! The Korean beef rib burrito from Kimchimera was class. Slow cooked in garlic and soy the flavour great and it was a serious feed.

I had a corn dog from Westies Street Food which was, well a corn dog! Nice at the time but you hate yourself after eating it! I was pretty full after a few samples at the demo and picked up along the way but still managed to try something from Joy Kitchen. I was raging I didn’t keep more room for food from here.

All the foods where washed down with a nice beer from White Hag Brewery, which is brewed locally in Sligo. I also picked up some hot sauce from The Draft House, which tasted really hot but full of flavour. Can’t wait to put this on some wings! I also grabbed some goats cheese from Corleggy Cheese and a couple of caramel slices.

Overall it was a great day. And for a first time food festival a massive success. The food was class, the music was fantastic, the demos were awesome and the vibe was great. I’m already looking forward to next year! Well done to everyone involved.
